2024 François Merlin, Condrieu Chanson - Condrieu, Rhône - 2 Bottles (0.75L)

The Condrieu Merlin white embodies the hallmark of the great northern Rhône white wines: a pure, expressive and refined Viognier, grown on the steep slopes of the Condrieu appellation. Located on the right bank of the Rhône, this small appellation produces only white wines from Viognier, on granitic soils and demanding slopes that require meticulous work in the vineyard. Domaine Merlin, based in Saint-Michel-sur-Rhône, cultivates its plots with a constant concern for precision and respect for the fruit. Its Condrieu wines are renowned for their balance: the natural richness and generous aromas of Viognier are preserved without heaviness, thanks to an expression that is taut, floral and mineral, reflecting the terroir. On tasting, this Condrieu white offers a seductive nose of apricot, white peach, white flowers and delicate honeyed notes, enhanced by a hint of citrus. The palate is velvety and ample, carried by a fine body, then refreshed by a freshness that lengthens the finish and adds liveliness. The style is indulgent, elegant and immediately enjoyable, while preserving the finesse expected of a true Condrieu. It is an ideal white wine to elevate a beautiful table: serve it with scallops, prawns, a fish filet in a creamy sauce, a mushroom risotto, or Asian cuisine with lightly sweet notes. It can also open a meal with a characterful apéritif. To preserve all its freshness and aromas, this Condrieu is ideally enjoyed in the first few years after the vintage, even if the appellation can evolve gracefully over several years under good storage conditions.
