20th-century Murano glass beads - Necklace - Millefiori Mali 65 cm

Stunning necklace made of Murano trade beads (38) (millefiori, chevrons...) collected in Mali and neatly re-knotted on a black cotton cord. A unique, authentic, and colorful jewel. Dimensions of the central "rosetta" bead: about 30x20 mm. Length: 52 + 13 cm (adjustable). Total weight: 141 grams. One-of-a-kind. These colored glass trade beads were produced on the island of Murano, in Venice, from the 15th century and exported in large quantities to Africa, Asia, and the Americas as currency, objects of prestige, and ornament. A necklace of this variety, of this length and of this quality represents the high end of the Venetian master glassmakers' production and is becoming increasingly difficult to assemble.
