This Wedgwood fine ceramic cup and saucer set features the Persephone pattern, designed by artist Eric Ravilious in the late 1930s. The set consists of one footed pedestal teacup and one matching saucer. The decoration is executed through transfer printing with hand-applied turquoise blue accents. The cup is adorned with a central vignette depicting a sheaf of wheat, a loaf of bread, and a butter dish, while the interior rim features a turquoise scalloped wave border. The saucer displays a central vignette of a preserve jar labeled with the number 34, accompanied by boxes and fruit, with a matching turquoise border at the rim. The base of each piece is marked with a brown Wedgwood backstamp, Made in England, and a rectangular mark stating Designed by Eric Ravilious. The saucer also bears the hand-painted pattern number W3494 / 20 in red. Both items include various collection and auction labels, specifically from the Rubin Collection and Skinner.
