Gandhara, circa 3rd to 5th century A.D. A carved plaster bust of a bearded male figure, the broad-shouldered torso in a forward-leaning stance, with large, expressive eyes and deeply incised hair falling in locks over the shoulders. Originally likely part of a larger narrative frieze or sculptural ensemble from a Buddhist monastery or shrine, reflecting the hybrid Greco-Buddhist tradition of the region.Size: 2.9" L x 4" W x 6.8" H (7.4 cm x 10.2 cm x 17.3 cm); 8.8" H (22.4 cm) on included custom stand. Though time has worn away much of the surface detail, traces of modeling and proportion remain, offering a glimpse into the artistic richness of this ancient cultural crossroads. Mounted on a custom display stand, the fragment stands as both an archaeological relic and a testament to the syncretic art of Gandhara. Item # 196836
