8 brittle stars - Fossil mortality plate - Ophiuroidea...

Beautiful fossilized plate with 8 complete or partial brittle stars. The complete plate measures 19.2 x 12.7 cm and is 3.1 cm thick. Brittle stars are echinoderms that look a lot like sea stars, but are actually more closely related to sea urchins. They live on mud- and sand bottoms, where they also bury themselves. With their arms they catch prey on the seabed. Brought back from my last trip to Morocco in April 2026. A beautiful decorative piece. Shipping is by registered mail and insured! With a matching information card. No reserve price!!
