What looks like wild, unruly growth across the surface is, in truth, not organic growth but mineral: fine, dendritic inclusions of manganese- and iron oxides that spread along tiny cracks in the still-formable kieselgel long before the rock fully crystallized. The branched, plant-like structure arises purely through the physics of spreading—comparable to frost patterns on a windowpane—not through actual biological growth. Between this "Wild growth" there lies, however, a second, decidedly calmer process: In places where small voids remained open inside the rock, quartz could no longer densify into the dense, milky-matted chalcedony mass, but instead grew inward—as tiny, individually discernible crystal tips that reflect light directly and create exactly that fine sparkle that flickers between the moss branches. Material: Green Moss Agate – Chalcedony (cryptocrystalline quartz) with manganese-/iron oxide dendrites and isolated quartz drusen Origin: India, Deccan Traps region Dimensions: 5.1 x 3.9 x 3.3 cm Weight: 88 g Special features: Fine, glittering quartz drusen visible between the dendritic moss inclusions
