88x Orange Elm Spanner - Complete Lifework Vestergaard...

88x Orange Elm Spanner - Complete Lifework Vestergaard...

Offered from the renowned collection of D.A. Vestergaard: a full museum drawer with glass lid, filled with 88 prepared specimens of the Orange Tip Moth - Angerona prunaria (Linnaeus, 1758). This is not a random assortment, but a documented lifelong project spanning 39 years of fieldwork. What makes this lot so rare? 1. The duration: 1963 - 2002. The oldest labels date from Hulshorst 27-6-1963, the youngest from Soest 2002. A period of almost four decades of uninterrupted collecting at the same locations. This is something that nowadays can no longer be collected on this scale. 2. The size and completeness: 88 items in one drawer. All specimens belong to one species, allowing you to see all natural variation: from deep orange-brown to light specimens. Including males and females. The bottom row even contains specimens from Hungary - Tiszabercel, showing geographic variation. 3. Museum quality with original data. Each specimen is professionally prepared on a pin with the original, handwritten locality label from Vestergaard: Soest, Oostvoorne, Hulshorst, Soest 1., Hungary. The top row is equipped with the original determination label: Angerona Duponchel, 1829 - prunaria (Linnaeus, 1758). 4. The drawer itself. Delivered in a classic wooden museum insect drawer with glass lid, white foam, in good condition. Directly suitable for museum, study or presentation. This kind of closed series will never come to market again. Usually collections are fragmented. Here you buy 39 years of fieldwork in one go. Specifications: • Quantity: 88 specimens • Species: Angerona prunaria - Orange Tip Moth (Geometridae) • Provenance: D.A. Vestergaard collection • Period: 1963 to 2002 (39 years) • Localities: Soest, Hulshorst, Oostvoorne (NL) and Hungary • Presentation: Wooden museum drawer with glass lid 40.00 by 30.00 cm. • Condition: Good, aging yellowness lightly visible in the oldest specimens from the 1960s – which actually proves authenticity and age. See detail photos. The Vestergaard collection is well known among connoisseurs. This material has been legally collected and is of inestimable value for comparative research into subspecies and climate forms. A one-time unique opportunity for the Natural History Museum, advanced collector, or as reference material for genitalia research / variation study. This kind of closed form-series with full data will never come to market again. We have received 100 new Vestergaard museum drawers!!! Again a very large complete scientific insect collection. Provenance Vestergaard / Gyulai and several other national and international entomologists. We will once again auction this collection on Catawiki without minimum prices, so keep an eye on my listings. Pickup is preferred due to fragility. If you buy multiple drawers, we can arrange a possible personal delivery. For shipping we will carefully and securely pack the drawers. Although all insects are firmly mounted on pins, there is always a small chance of damage. Therefore shipping is also at your own risk. We have already shipped more than 80 drawers and all have arrived well apart from one butterfly that fell off its pin. Packed and shipped with great care and insured.
