In 1755, without an author’s name, a treatise appeared titled “General Natural History and Theory of the Heavens.” Its author was the young Immanuel Kant, and he dared there an enormous thought. At the beginning, space was said to be filled with the finest, dispersed matter. Over unimaginable periods, condensations would have formed from which the Sun and planets emerged. The distant nebulae in the sky he regarded as their own Milky Ways. But the publisher went bankrupt during the printing, the edition was confiscated, and hardly anyone read the work. Only in the 20th century did Edwin Hubble confirm that those nebulae are indeed distinct galaxies. This skull seems like a look into exactly that primordial time. The deep blackness appears as nothingness itself: infinitely empty and yet everywhere threaded with fine stardust, and thus at once full. Right in this cosmic soup, the green forms have gathered—galaxies, nebulae, and planets—grown over millions of years. Also in the stone, order grew out of the uniform. Kambaba Jasper is, despite its name, not real jasper, but a rhyolite from the Bongolava region of Madagascar. Its green spheres are spheroids. In the slowly cooling lava, mineral fibers radiated around tiny seeds, until from the uniform darkness, individual, round worlds emerged. Material: Kambaba Jasper – spheroidal rhyolite (not real jasper) Origin: Bongolava region, Madagascar Dimensions: 5.1 x 3.9 x 3.3 cm Weight: 90 g Special features: Deep black base material with fine, metallic glittering inclusions; clearly defined green spheroids across the entire skull
