In this light even the most familiar forest suddenly seems strange, as if it hides behind every veil a story told only to those who stand still long enough to listen. That very light has settled into this skull. The smoky-gray wisps weaving between the moss-green surfaces feel less like a fixed drawing and more like captured breath—as if the forest itself were still quietly drawing through the stone, millions of years after everything else has long since frozen. What appears here as magic is actually solidified volcanism: as silica-rich lava slowly cooled, countless spiky mineral fibers radiated outward from tiny crystallization nuclei until they merged into those cloudy, intermingling spheroids that give this rhyolite from the Bongolava region of Madagascar its distinctive, forest-mist character. Nature needed no fire and no lightning for it—only time, heat, and the quiet patience of growing crystals.
