A. C. M. Parisot - Traité d'équitation sur des bases géométriques - 1843

A fascinating illustrated edition with 74 figures spread across 8 folded plates of this technical treatise devoted to the art of mounting and guiding the horse, in which the author seeks to explain horsemanship based on rational, geometric and mechanical principles rather than considering it solely as an set of empirical practices transmitted by the horsemen - Parisot thus undertakes to establish a relationship between the rider's position, the horse's movements, the balance of the whole formed by the animal and its rider, and the different figures performed in the riding arena - Geometry serves as a framework to analyze the horse's movements, changes of direction, curves, circles, straight lines and the various trajectories that the animal can travel under the action of its conductor - A.
