A carved wood figure of a seated deity (Possibly Indra?), Nepal 18th/19th century The deity sits in rajalilasana (royal ease) on a double-stepped lotus base. The right knee is raised with the right arm resting on it, and the left leg is folded beneath while the left hand rests on the seat behind. The face is calm and elongated, under a tall headdress, with large disc earrings. Behind the figure rises a rounded aureole with a carved border. The surface is worn and darkened, with remains of red pigment and traces of earlier polychromy. Condition: heavy surface wear consistent with age and devotional handling; erosion to the facial features and carved details; traces of pigment; small losses, age cracks and splits to the wood.
