A gold ground medium-sized six-panel folding screen free...

A gold ground medium-sized six-panel folding screen free from figurative decoration. The screen is finished with a silk border, a black lacquered wooden frame and gilt metal corner fittings. The uninterrupted golden surface highlights the natural luminosity and subtle texture of the gold leaf. The screen is finished with a silk and wooden frame. The screen can also be easily mounted on a wall or used as a room divider. Byōbu (屏風), literally “wind protection screens,” are traditional Japanese folding screens originally created to divide spaces and today appreciated above all as striking wall-mounted paintings. --- The byobu is in good condition, with minor losses to the gold, consistent with age.
