All auctions / Asian Art / A GROUP OF TWO HELLENISTIC AND ROMAN POTTERY VESSELS

Ca. 200 BC - AD 100. A large one-handled jug and a smaller fusiform bottle form this group of two vessels, both made in buff to orange pottery. The jug has an elongated ovoid body tapering to a pointed lower end, a narrow cylindrical neck and a thick vertical handle joining the shoulder to a pinched or trefoil-shaped mouth, now chipped along the rim. Beside it, the smaller bottle presents a broad piriform body, narrow neck, rolled lip and small flattened base, forming a profile consistent with an unguentarium or perfume vessel. Size: 100-150mm x 60-80mm; Weight: 415g Provenance: Private London collection; acquired in Belgium; formerly in a German private collection before 2000.
