A LARGE PAIR OF ORMOLU TWIN BRANCH WALL LIGHTS GERMAN OR FRENCH, MID 18TH CENTURY Modelled opposing, of asymmetric scrolling form with entwined dragon decoration 56cm high, 30cm wide Provenance: The Collection of George Hayburn Literature: F. J. B. Watson, The Wrightsman Collection. Vols. 1 and 2, Furniture, Gilt Bronze and Mounted Porcelain, Carpets, 1966. The design would seem to draw its inspiration from the work of Andre Charles Boulle in "Nouveaux desseins de meubles et ouvrages de bronze et de marqueterie". A pair of comparable but later design are held in the Wrightsman Collection, Metropolitan Museum, New York, illustrated p, 404, No. 217 A & B.
