A PAIR OF LARGE CARVED MARBLE BUDDHIST LIONS QING DYNASTY (1644-1911) depicting male and female lions seated on their haunches, the bulging eyes peering from below bushy eyebrows, heads turned slightly towards one another with a mane of slightly curly tufts above tasselled collars, raised on square form bases 79cm high Note: The construction of the incorporated stone base suggests that these were likely originally made for a temple entrance PROVENANCE: From the Collection of the Late Anthony John Lippitt (1928-2019), Deputy Secretary Department of Industry, Group Export Director GEC,Chairman and Managing Director MSTC and latterly Chairman of Aurelian Gas and Oil.
