A pair of earthenware commemorative plates, likely creamware or pearlware, produced by Wedgwood for the Dutch market. Each plate features a central blue transfer-printed portrait within a hand-painted polychrome border. One plate depicts King Willem I of the Netherlands, identified by the inscription K: W: D: 1. (Koning Willem De Eerste), and the other depicts King Willem III, identified by the inscription K: W: D: 3. (Koning Willem De Derde). The central medallions are enclosed by yellow and russet concentric bands with red acanthus-style leaves and floral sprigs. The rims are decorated with a hand-painted border of red berries on a green vine. The reverse of the plates features impressed Wedgwood marks. Multiple provenance and collection labels are affixed to the reverse, including circular labels for the Rubin Collection, the Zeitlin Collection, and Skinner auctions. The reverse of the Willem III plate has a faint handwritten inscription that appears to read Father, and the Willem I plate has the number 390 handwritten in blue ink. Dimensions: 0.75"H x 6.25" dia.
