A. Santini / Bianchi - Sculpture

The Eternal Struggle between Good and Evil: A Masterpiece of Italian Sacred Art Add to your collection or your decor an eternal symbol of strength, protection and classical beauty. This majestic sculpture depicts Saint Michael the Archangel in the triumphant act of subduing the demon, bound by a golden chain, capturing a dramatic, scenographic dynamism of rare expressive power. The work directly draws inspiration from the famous painting by Guido Reni (1636), one of the greatest masterpieces of Italian Baroque held in the Church of Santa Maria della Concezione dei Cappuccini in Rome. The canonicity of the wings spread, the drapery of the mantle, and the finely defined details of the armor and face make this sculpture a decor and devotion piece with timeless charm. The base of the sculpture bears the original inscription BIANCHI, a historic mark tied to the prestigious tradition of marble-and-alabaster sculpture made in Tuscany (between Volterra and Florence). Crafted in reconstituted marble powder with high-quality resins, the sculpture feel to the touch the compactness and coolness of carved marble, joined with a delicate warm ivory tone typical of natural alabaster. The golden chain in hand-applied metal that wraps around the demon, the meticulous carving of every single feather on the wings, and the muscular definition of the figures stand out. The spear or sword used by the Archangel to defeat the demon is missing. Saint Michael is revered as patron and protector against adversity: an important symbolic presence for any home or professional study. Thanks to its impeccable condition and the solid integrated base, it fits perfectly in both classic and modern living spaces. A piece that embodies the excellence of Italian figurative sculpture of the second half of the 20th century.
