A set of six Wedgwood earthenware commemorative plates produced for the University of Pennsylvania Bicentennial (1740-1940). The plates are crafted from cream-colored earthenware with a molded laurel wreath border in the Edme style. Each plate features a central mulberry-colored transfer-printed scene based on drawings by Douglas D. Ellington, Class of 1912. The scenes depict various campus landmarks and activities, including a football game, the Evans Institute Portal, architectural views, and a statue of Benjamin Franklin. The reverse of each plate features an elaborate mulberry backstamp including the University of Pennsylvania coat of arms, the bicentennial dates 1740-1940, and the title of the specific scene. The manufacturer mark reads WEDGWOOD ETRURIA, ENGLAND and the importer mark identifies Jones McDuffee and Stratton Co. of Boston. Dimensions: 1.25"H x 10.50" dia. Dimensions: 1.25"H x 10.50" dia.
