Important medical and surgical treatise devoted to diseases of the breast and the mammary region, published in Paris by the Librairie de Victor Masson in September 1858. Second edition, revised and enlarged. Large volume devoted to the clinical and surgical study of mammary affections: inflammations, abscesses, benign and malignant tumors, cancers, lesions and pathologies of the mammary region. The work is particularly remarkable for its extensive medical iconography and includes 8 plates hors texte, devoted notably to pathological anatomy and to the various lesions and tumors of the breast. Bibliographical references confirm the presence of eight plates in this edition. Collation: XXXI + LVII + 703 pages + 8 plates hors texte. The last numbered page 703 bearing the mention “FIN” is clearly visible in the copy. Old half-leather binding in purple morocco, spine titled in gilt, marbled boards. Binding showing some rubbing and signs of use consistent with age. Very fine interior condition for a medical work from 1858: paper overall fresh and well preserved, clear printing, a few foxmarks and small sporadic stains. The photographed plates show good sharpness. An important work in the history of surgery and mammary pathology in the 19th century. The first edition appeared in 1854; this copy is therefore indeed the second edition of 1858.
