A Victorian mahogany and crossbanded overmantel, late 19th century; the 'broken pediment' above a blind frieze and a serpentine fronted shelf; the central shallow-arched and bevelled mirror plate flanked by glazed display cabinets; above openwork supports and conforming crossbanded panels; 164cm high, 162cm wide PROVENANCE: The National Trust. Reputedly made by E. W. J. Frampton (1868-1946) of Highgate London, master cabinet maker, who worked at Naples and possibly exhibited at the V&A. Frampton was the grandfather of Mrs R. B. Harris who made a gift of the overmantel to the Trust.
