All auctions / Miscellaneous / A. Vitaliano (XX-XXI) - Adamo ed Eva, da Tamara de Lempicka
Oil painting on canvas depicting a naked couple, Adam and Eve, standing and tightly embracing against a stylized urban backdrop with geometric black-and-white skyscrapers, typical of the Art Deco language. The man, with very short dark hair, is seen from behind, his face turned toward the woman and resting on her temple; his sculptural body, with voluminous and smooth shapes, occupies the foreground on the left. The woman, blonde with a hairstyle of closely waved hair, is portrayed frontally, her head tilted toward her partner; with her right hand raised she holds an orange fruit (an apple/orange, a reference to original sin), while the other arm is wrapped around the man's body. The style clearly echoes Tamara de Lempicka's hand: full and cylindrical volumes, marked shading and sharp contrasts of light, a limited palette (flesh tones, white, black, with the chromatic accent of the orange fruit), and a spare architectural background that recalls the modernist skyline.
