bombé, bombé oval and on four robust leaf-capped ball and claw feet, with leaf-capped scroll handles, each side with a foliage and flower cartouche, each engraved with a coat-of-arms below a baron's coronet, with shell and foliage heightened gadrooned border, the pull-off cover slightly domed and with a foliage, flower and shell band below the gadrooned shell and foliage loop handle above a foliage calyx, each side engraved with a crest below a baron's coronet, with an associated silver plate liner 42.5cm wide over handles, weight of silver 144oz 19dwt, 4,508gr The arms are those of Wodehouse quartering Berkeley and another with those of Norris in pretence for John Wodehouse, 2nd Baron (1771-1846). Wodehouse was the eldest son of John Wodehouse, 1st Baron Wodehouse (1741-1834) and his wife Sophia Berkeley (d.1825). The 2nd Baron served as a captain of the East Norfolk Militia and was elected as Member of Parliament for Great Bedwyn, a seat he held until 1802 when he was defeated. He rather returned to the House of Commons as MP for Marlborough between 1818-1826. He succeeded his father as 2nd Baron in 1834 and sat in the House of Lords as a Conservative, voting with Peel in favour of repealing the Corn Laws. He married Charlotte Laura Norris, daughter of John Norris of Witton Park, Norfolk, in 1796 and together they had eleven children.
