Abdoulaye Derme - Sculpture, Le Minotaure - 83 cm - Bronze

Elevated and hieratic, this sculpture revisits the mythological figure of the Minotaur with remarkable sobriety. Its body is extremely elongated, almost threadlike, contrasting with its head dominated by two long curled horns that immediately evoke the power of the bull. The arms, thin and oversized, fall naturally along the body, emphasizing the verticality of the work and giving it a majestic presence. The hammered texture on the torso provides a living texture that dialogues with the dark patina, revealing the nuances of bronze over time. Resting on a flared base, the silhouette seems suspended between strength and lightness. This pared-down representation does not seek realism but symbolic expression: the Minotaur becomes a timeless figure, embodying at once power, mystery, and the duality between man and animal. Ideal for a contemporary interior or a collection of modern African art, this piece draws the eye with its elegance, balance, and strong sculptural presence. Cover photo generated by AI.
