Abel Lauvray (1870–1950) The poetry of the banks of the Seine, direct heir to Impressionism Close to Claude Monet, whom he has known since childhood in Vétheuil, Abel Lauvray develops a work deeply marked by light and the changing atmospheres of the Seine valley. A post-Impressionist painter of great sensibility, he created over 1,500 canvases where calm, harmony and tonal subtlety prevail. His landscapes – from Vétheuil to Mantes-la-Jolie, but also from Tours, Provence, or Villeneuve-les-Avignon – captivate with their gentleness and sincerity. Lauvray excels at capturing the moment: a reflection on the water, a morning mist, a shifting sky. This ability to seize light, without ever imitating Monet, gives his work a strong and sought-after identity. Today, Abel Lauvray’s paintings are increasingly sought after by collectors, drawn by the quality of his brushwork, the rarity of preserved works, and the historical proximity to the Impressionist masters. A Lauvray painting brings a note of serenity and authenticity to any collection, while itself belonging to a major artistic tradition of French landscape painting.
