Adoration of the Shepherds, Italian school, 17th century

Descriptio Oil on canvas. Dimensions 122 x 96 / 130 x 105 cm. Nativity scene with the Virgin Mary holding the Christ Child in the center of an architectural stable, surrounded by Saint Joseph, shepherds, and animals, in a compact composition of great pious intensity. The figures are grouped around the newborn with gestures of veneration and converging gazes, while the column and the dark tones of the background reinforce the solemnity of the episode. The work features a pronounced chiaroscuro, warm colors, and a stage setting with a late Baroque flavor, characteristic of 17th-century Italian religious painting. Due to its age and history of use, this lot may show signs of wear and previous interventions. Unless explicitly stated otherwise, no specialized technical testing has been performed. The absence of any mention of restorations does not guarantee that none exist. You may request additional information before placing a bid. This does not affect the buyer’s statutory rights.
