Inspired by the Orientalist aesthetic of 1920s Paris, contemporary theater, and the celebrated dancers of the era, this bronze and carved bone sculpture depicts an elegant female dancer in a dramatic, elongated reaching pose. The figure is modeled wearing a fitted, pebbled-texture bodysuit accented with teardrop-shaped carved bone inserts at the chest, hips, and legs, with finely carved bone head and hands. Raised on a stepped geometric base composed of alternating layers of pale green onyx and reddish-brown banded marble. Carved signature to the stone base: D.H. Chiparus.
