AFTER GIUSEPPE GUZZARDI (1845-1915), A LARGE MOSAIC PICTURE PLAQUE ‘LOTTA IMPARRI’ BY THE STUDIO DEL MOSAICO ROME, EARLY 20TH CENTURY Worked in macro and micro mosaic, with paper label to reverse 'Studio Del Mosaico, S.C. della Rev. Fabrica. S. Pietro in Vaticano No. 4423 A, Lotta Impari (G Guzzardi)', in a gilt frame the plaque 55cm x 42cm, the frame 69.5 x 57cm Guzzardi seems to have painted various versions of this scene with an example sold at Bruun Rasmussen Auctioneers, 18th April 2007 lot 220. For a similar example of this scene executed as a mosaic- please see Freemans Philadelphia, English And Continental Furniture And Works Of Art, 30th January 2009 ($15,000 excl. BP). An identical plaque entitled 'Lotta Impari', bearing a paper label, 'STUDIO DEL MOSAICO, No. 4905A, S. C. della REV FABBRICA, S. PIETRO IN VATICANO' sold Freeman's December 13th, 2006, lot 525. Condition Report: With very mild wear, marks, knocks and scratches as per age, handling, use, and cleaning. Two natural white inclusions to black framing stone, one tesserae lacking approx 8cm above wine bottles with another smaller beneath it slightly lacking front edge. Small spot repairs visible under UV- along blade and approx 4 cm uop from lower left bottom edge. The UV shows mostly what appears to be original glue. .
