After Rembrandt (19th century) Self portrait with gorget Oil on canvas, 37 x 28.9 cm Provenance: Private collection, the Netherlands Note: The original painting, dating from around 1629, is in the collection of Germanisches Nationalmuseum in Nuremberg. For a long time this was believed to be a copy after the portrait in the collection of Mauritshuis, The Hague. In 1991 art historian Claus Grimm claimed the Nuremberg work to be the original and subsequently the Mauritshuis version a copy. Extensive research later proved Grimms theory right.
