AFTER THE ANTIQUE, A BRONZE FIGURAL GROUP OF LAOCOON PROBABLY ITALIAN, LATE 19TH OR EARLY 20TH CENTURY Showing the Trojan priest Laocoon and his sons battling the serpents 49cm high, 29.5cm wide The original marble group was first mentioned by Pliny as being located at the Palace of Titus. Excavated in 1506, the group was acquired by the pontiff Pope Julius II and placed in the Belvedere courtyard of the Vatican.
