Exciting numbered edition 641 on BFK Rives and illustrated with 69 in-text and 12 plate illustrations by Dubout hand-colored by Maurice Beaufumé - This satirical and picaresque novel uses the adventures of a young student and the revelations of a demon to offer a critical portrait of Spanish society and, more broadly, human vices - The plot begins when Don Cléofas, a young man drawn into a turbulent existence, becomes involved in a dangerous situation and meets the devil Asmodée, a fantastical creature capable of lifting the roofs off houses to reveal to his companion the secrets of those who live in them - This narrative device gives Lesage the opportunity to transform the city into a vast social theatre, where respectable appearances often conceal passions, intrigues, deceptions and behaviours that do not conform to the values professed - Alain René Le Sage / Dubout - Le Diable boiteux - 1945 - Éditions du Livre - 203 Pages.
