Alexander George Lazich-Hill (1959–2024) was a London-born artist who spent the last roughly 30 years of his life living and working mainly in Berlin. He is best known for highly detailed, often photorealistic depictions of women—especially fine pencil drawings, but also works in acrylic or oil on canvas or wood. Key biographical information Born in 1959 in London, studied at the Academy of Arts. Early interest in the human body/the human form. Travels to Mexico, the USA and Greece influenced his work. Lived and worked about three decades in Berlin and was regarded as one of the leading pencil artists (very soft pencils, dense hatching and smudging for luminous, tactile effects). He also worked with acrylic and oil. Recurring theme: the beauty and grace of the female form. His works invite close examination of details, light and shadow, as well as the modeling. He died in 2024 in Berlin. Portrait of a woman in three-quarter view, gaze slightly downward or to the side. She wears a dark (black) bell-shaped/cloche hat with small white/pearl-like dots, a red earring, dark lipstick and a black halter-neck top. The background is warm reddish-brown. The style is smoothly modeled, idealized-realistic with careful treatment of skin tones, shadows and facial features—typical of Lazich-Hill’s focus on female beauty and form.
