Allegory of the seasons and gallant scenes, European School, late 18th century

Descriptio Oil on canvas. A unique decorative composition organized in successive horizontal registers where pastoral, mythological, and courtly scenes unfold within a fantastical landscape populated by flowering trees, idealized architecture, and allegorical figures. The narrative structure combines figures dressed in 18th-century fashion with bucolic scenes of Arcadian inspiration, incorporating symbolic references linked to the cycle of nature, courtly love, and the passing of the seasons. The warm palette, dominated by ochre, reddish, and greenish tones, along with the use of small luminous touches in flowers and fruit, lends ornamental dynamism and a delicate scenographic character. The execution reveals a decorative purpose akin to the mural programs or ornamental panels of the late Rococo period, with imaginary landscapes and figures of elegant theatricality. The whole reflects the refined and playful sensibility of late 18th-century European art, where idealized nature and gallant scenes functioned as a visual metaphor for pleasure, harmony, and the fleeting nature of life.
