All auctions / Miscellaneous / Amanda Bonnieu (1907-1990) - Morning Waltz - XL
- Oil on canvas. Original canvas. Hand-signed. - In Amanda Bonnieu's dazzling still life (1907-1990), the canvas becomes a threshold where the sublime and the domestic coexist in perfect harmony. On the warmth of a pink tablecloth, which acts as a setting of gentle intimacy, stands a magnificent vase from which emerge a profusion of lilies, irises, and tulips, unfurling their organic magnificence toward the edges of the painting. These flowers, captured in the fullness of their freshness, not only dominate the composition with their elegant verticality, but also seem to proudly guard the small treasures of daily life resting at their feet: an ashtray awaiting the rest of the ash, a delicate porcelain jug, and the mystic receptacle that houses the Rose of Jericho. With her characteristic mastery of infusing soul into inert forms, the painter makes these everyday objects cease to be mere utensils and become guardians of an intimate, personal liturgy. - The entire scene exudes a strange, nostalgic morning joy, a feeling suspended in time that evokes the stillness of the early hours of the day, when the outside world has not yet broken the charm of the home. It is a painting that almost transcends the purely visual to appeal to the deepest senses; when viewed, the spectator is subtly invaded by a synesthetic atmosphere that unmistakably smells of freshly brewed coffee, the familiar trace of blond tobacco, and the trail of a woman’s perfume that has just left the room. Bonnieu freezes this fleeting moment with vibrant melancholy, reminding us that beauty resides not only in the grandeur of nature but in the aromas, textures, and silent rituals that define the memory of our happiest days. - Unframed image dimensions: 116 x 89 cm / 132 x 105 cm with a beautiful period frame in white and gold tones.
