The Society of the Propagation of the Gospel in Foreign Parts was established by Royal Charter under the reign of King William III as a missionary society in order to provide clergy from the Church of England to minister to settlers in the colonies, as well as convert the indigenous populations to Christianity. The first mentioned provides a table of places, most in the Americas such as New England, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia and, Newfoundland. It records the present state of religion in those areas as well as any monetary donations received and whether they require ministers, schools or libraries. "The Yammonsea Indians, Mr. Samuel Thomas was sent to instruct these Indians in the Christian Religion; but finding it an improper Season: His Mission is respited for some time."
