An Art Nouveau 15k yellow gold ruby and baroque pearl hat pin. With a finely chased serpent’s head, the eyes set with faceted rubies, holding a baroque pearl (probably an Oriental pearl, not tested, approx. 4.91 mm in diameter) in its open jaws. Later-added fine safety chain with small pearls. Not hallmarked. Serpent’s head height 2.0 cm. Overall pin length 14.0 cm. Total weight 7.24 g. Probably England, c. 1900.
