Anasazi Snowflake Black-on-White Pitcher with Interlocking Scrolls

Native American, Southwestern United States, Ancestral Puebloan (Anasazi). A Snowflake black-on-white pitcher with a globular body, a tall cylindrical neck, and a loop handle joining the rim to the shoulder. Groups of short vertical bars hang from the rim, and two encircling lines mark the shoulder. The body carries a wide band of interlocking rectilinear scrolls in bold black paint, ending in stepped elements and crossed by diagonal bands of offset squares. A single line encircles the lower body above the unpainted base. The decoration reflects the defining traits of the type, a late variant of Tularosa Black-on-white distinguished by heavy solid lines and stepped motifs used in place of the hatching common on Tularosa vessels. A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids. Item # 205673
