Fascinating numbered copy 1497 on beautiful arch-tinted vellum and illustrated with fine color compositions by Maurice Lalau. This tale, inspired by a famous medieval legend, delicately celebrates the sincerity of faith, the simplicity of the heart, and the value of the humblest gifts when offered with selfless love - The story features Barnabé, a poor itinerant juggler whose whole life is devoted to feats of skill, acrobatics, and the performances he presents on public squares in order to earn his meager subsistence - Growing old, tired of privations and deeply drawn to the peace of religious life, he leaves his wandering existence to enter a monastery dedicated to the Virgin Mary. He hopes there to find peace of soul and to devote the rest of his life to the service of God - Anatole France / Maurice Lalau - Le Jongleur de Notre-Dame - 1924 - A. Ferroud & F. Ferroud - 29 pages + double suite Good binding, paperback in its original full soft toiled cover, wear from use, some minor defects to the book, cover partly faded, speckled edges, smooth spine titled, as well as the first cover, pretty black motif in the center of the back cover - Good interior condition, light browning, title page printed in blue and black and decorated with a handsome vignette, drop caps, charming initials, pretty borders, work enriched with fine color compositions by Maurice Lalau, including a frontispiece and several full-page plates, a pleasant copy numbered 1497 on beautiful arch-tinted vellum, fairly fresh interior - Delivery service assured within a few days -
