Ancient big Celt with fine light green stone - kapak...

An exceptionally beautiful and impressive light green stone celt from New Guinea, measuring no less than 28 cm in length. This magnificent piece is a remarkable example of the highly valued stone objects traditionally used in important tribal transactions, particularly major exchanges between families and communities. Such prestigious stone celts also played a significant role in bride-price payments, representing wealth, social standing and the establishment of lasting relationships between families. The beautiful, delicate light green colour gives this particular example an extraordinary appearance, while its impressive size makes it especially desirable. At 28 cm, it is a particularly large and striking specimen. The quality of the stone, its elegant proportions and its wonderful colour make this one of the finest examples I have ever had the pleasure of handling during my many years of collecting New Guinea tribal art. An outstanding and highly desirable collector's item, combining remarkable natural beauty with considerable ethnographic significance. A truly exceptional piece for the serious collector of New Guinea stone artefacts and traditional Oceanic art. .
