INCENSE BURNER - END OF THE MING PERIOD Bronze incense burner in the shape of a lion. End of the Ming Dynasty, beginning of the Kangxi period (1621 to 1722 AD). This incense burner depicts a Luduan with a separated head, a legendary Chinese auspicious creature with the head of a lion, the horn of a rhinoceros, the body of a dragon, the paws of a bear, and the tail of an ox. The Luduan wears a necklace with a gourd, and its body is adorned with scrolls and Ruyi motifs on the sides.
