Ancient Egyptian Faience Djed Amulet - Symbol of Stability and Endurance Late Period, ca. 664-332 BC A remarkable Egyptian pale faience amulet representing the djed pillar, with an elongated rectangular shaft surmounted by four prominent horizontal ribs. The upper section terminates in a short cylindrical projection, pierced horizontally for suspension. The lower shaft is decorated with a succession of narrower transverse ridges and expands slightly towards its rounded base. The djed pillar was one of the most important symbols in ancient Egyptian religion, representing stability, endurance and continuity. Traditionally associated with Osiris, the god of the afterlife and resurrection, it was commonly interpreted as a representation of his backbone, symbolising his restoration to life and the triumph of regeneration over death. Djed amulets were frequently placed among mummy wrappings to provide the deceased with strength, protection and the promise of eternal existence. Size: 3cm x 1cm x 0.5cm Provenance: Private European Collection; formerly acquired from old UK and European collection formed since the 1970s.
