Greco-Hellenistic terracotta head of a veiled woman Greece, 3rd–1st century BCE The head made from beige clay depicts a young woman in an almost frontal view. The softly modeled face has almond-shaped eyes, a straight nose, and a small mouth that appears slightly open. The hair is parted over the forehead and rendered in wavy strands. Particularly characteristic is the veil laid over the back of the head, which frames the face from the side and falls in broad swathes down to the neck. The back side is comparatively roughly worked. The execution corresponds to the Hellenistic tradition of small-format terracotta figures and figurines, in which female figures were often depicted with a mantle or veil. The head is mounted on a restrained wooden base (overall height: 93 mm) and can thus be displayed very well. Culture: Greco-Hellenistic Dating: 3rd–1st century BCE Origin: Greece Material: Terracotta, beige clay Dimensions of the ancient head: 40 × 27 × 30 mm Total height with base: 93 mm Condition: Intact Provenance: Acquired in 2026 from a German art trade, previously since before 2000 in private collection H. L., Rhineland. The invoice is available and will be provided to the buyer in copy.
