Ancient Greek

Silver-plated metal pendant encapsulated, for better preservation, with AE bronze struck between 120-63 BC during the reign of Mithridates VI Eupator. Mint Amisos, Kingdom of Pontus. It is mounted on a modern 925 silver cord-type chain. Obverse; Bust of the god Ares, god of war, with a Corinthian helmet. Reverse; short sword in its sheath (xiphos) vertically, flanked by monograms or control letters. In this era warrior and protective deities were common due to the context of expansion and conflicts in the Mithridatic wars. It is shipped with a legal provenance declaration sheet.
