Ancient Greek Terracotta Campanian black glazed Kylix

A black glazed stemless kylix with shaped looped handles. Underneath on the base three circular black lines on naked terracotta. There is some wear to the glaze but its largely intact and complete, and overall a nice example. A kylix was the standard drinking cup for wine, especially used at banquet-drinking gatherings. The black glaze is not paint but a ceramic slip (refined clay suspension) that turns glossy black when fired under controlled conditions in a three-phase kiln process. Dimensions: 29 cm in length from handle to handle, 21,5 cm without the handles, 7 cm high. Condition: Good condition, one handle restored and repainted black. The other handle repaired. Provenance: Dutch collection since 2024. France private collection, bought in 1997 at Gallery Pierre-Eric Becker in Cannes. With German export license and copy of the 1997 invoice. Shipping: - Tracked and insured shipping. - Extra safe packaging. If necessary double boxed. - Shipping within 3 workdays after auction and payment. - Combined shipping if you buy more than 1 item in the same auction. - For buyers outside the European Union (EU) a Dutch export license is required. This will take several weeks to arrange. - Any other costs or charges such as customs or import duties, customs clearance and handling may also apply during the shipment of your lot and will be charged to the buyer by the involved party at a later stage if applicable (outside EU).
