Ancient Roman

Roman bronze discoidal fibula with concentric decoration – 2nd–3rd centuries AD. Culture: Roman. Period: Roman Empire, 2nd–3rd centuries AD. Material: Bronze. Auction description: Elegant Roman bronze discoidal fibula, belonging to the tradition of small personal adornments used during the Roman Empire to fasten cloaks and other garments. It presents an attractive circular design, topped by a small central raised button, surrounded by a well-defined concentric ring. The outer area incorporates various sunken geometric fields, arranged radially, which provide balance and ornamental richness to the composition. This type of fibulae constitutes an interesting manifestation of Roman metalwork, in which craftsmen combined functionality and decoration through geometrical shapes of great elegance. The piece preserves a beautiful green archaeological patina, with turquoise, ochre tones and mineral deposits that accentuate the reliefs and confer a notable aesthetic appeal. Conservation status: Good preservation of the ornamental disk, with visible concentric decoration, surface wear and an attractive old patina.
