Ancient Roman

Bronze gilted archaeological buckle with double lion-head mask Material: Bronze with traces of gilding. Measurements: 72 × 26 × 15 mm. Description for auction: Exceptional ornamental bronze buckle with decoration of two imposing lion heads in high relief, symmetrically placed at the ends of an elongated frame. The lion masks feature elaborate sculptural work, with expressive facial features, prominent muzzles, and carefully modeled manes. The piece retains its double opening structure, crossbar and securing pin, as well as extensive gilding areas that contrast with the dark patina and verdigris on the surface. The representation of the lion, a symbol of power, authority and strength since Antiquity, gives this piece notable ornamental and collectible appeal. Conservation: Excellent aesthetic presence, well-defined reliefs, complete structure and attractive antique patina.
