Ancient Roman

Roman bronze discoidal brooch with concentric decoration – 2nd–3rd centuries CE. Culture: Roman. Era: Roman Empire, 2nd–3rd centuries CE. Material: Bronze. Description for auction: Elegant Roman bronze discoidal brooch, belonging to the tradition of small personal adornments used during the Roman Empire to fasten cloaks and other garments. It features an attractive circular design, crowned by a small central button in relief, surrounded by a well-defined concentric ring. The outer area incorporates various radiating recessed geometric fields, which provide balance and ornamental richness to the composition. This type of brooches constitutes an interesting manifestation of Roman metalworking, in which artisans combined functionality and decoration through elegantly geometric forms. The piece preserves a beautiful green archaeological patina, with turquoise, ochre tones and mineral deposits that enhance the reliefs and contribute notable aesthetic appeal. Condition: Good conservation of the ornamental disk, with visible concentric decoration, surface wear and attractive antique patina.
