DOUBLE ROMAN BALSAMAIRE IN GLASS Large iridescent Roman balsamarium in glass with a double belly, adorned with a zigzag glass thread forming handles near the neck. Magnificent double unguentarium in translucent mouth-blown glass, with alluring shades of green. This vessel features two cylindrical compartments fused at the center, resting on a common base. The neck tapers toward the thick rim, and two curved handles extend from the rim to the shoulder. A fine thread of applied glass, forming a delicate spiral, emphasizes the cylindrical shapes and the concavity of the central part. The whole is coated with fine iridescent layers with silvery iridescent reflections. Very pretty iridescence in rainbow tones, formed by the oxidation of the glass. Roman period, 2nd century AD. Height 12.1 cm - width 4.6 cm - Excellent condition - some fine threads missing. Provenance: United Kingdom, A.P.L. gallery. Previously: Collection of an art professional from Oxfordshire; former British collection assembled in the 1980s from British and international art markets.
