Ancient Roman, Empire Bronze Lion's head - 23 mm (No reserve price)

Small zoomorphic bronze appliqué or terminal representing a lion head. Imperial Roman era, probably 1st–3rd centuries AD. The broad posterior part makes me think it was not a standalone figurine, but an element that capped or decorated another object: furniture, a chest, a box, a vehicle, or some wooden accessory. This use is perfectly documented for Roman zoomorphic terminals; there are even museum examples specifically identified as furniture terminals with bear heads. Appliqué/terminal Roman bronze in the form of a bear head. Roman Empire, ca. 1st–3rd centuries AD. Cast bronze with details of the fur and facial features cut by incision. Head with strong frontal modeling, prominent snout, and lateral ears. 23 × 23 × 19 mm. Probably ornamental element of furniture or equipment.
