Ancient Roman, Empire Bronze Lion's head - 26 mm (No reserve price)

Small appliqué or zoomorphic bronze terminal depicting a lion's head. Imperial Roman era, probably 1st–3rd centuries AD. The broad rear part makes me think it was not an isolated statuette, but an element that finished or decorated another object: furniture, chest, box, vehicle or some wooden accessory. That use is perfectly documented for Roman zoomorphic terminals; there are even museum examples specifically identified as furniture terminals with bear heads. Roman bronze appliqué/terminal in the form of a bear's head. Roman Empire, ca. 1st–3rd centuries AD. Cast bronze with details of the fur and facial features realized by incision. Head with strong frontal modeling, prominent snout and lateral ears. 23 × 25 × 23 mm. Probably ornamental element of furniture or equipment.
