Ancient Roman Glass Millefiori Bead - 1.7 cm

Ancient Roman mosaic glass bead with radial eye motifs. A distinctive ancient glass bead of substantial rounded form, made from dark glass and decorated with contrasting cream-coloured bands and circular radial eye motifs in red, cream and darker tones. The bead has a large central perforation for suspension. Its bold geometric decoration and larger proportions give it a strong and unusual visual character compared with the other beads from the same necklace. The bead has been carefully inspected and is fully intact, with no cracks, breaks or chips. Natural surface wear, deposits and minor age-related irregularities are present, consistent with its antiquity.
